Hotel bookings increase for G7 weekend and prices go up

As the coronavirus vaccine rolls out, more people are taking vacations and world leaders are heading to Cornwall in June for the G7 summit – this summer is already shaping up to be busy for hotels across the county.

Ian Londesborough, founder of the Cornwall Direct booking site, said bookings were up 20% from the same period last year.

“Cornwall is a place to stay,” said Mr Londesborough. “I hope that later in the year, once the coronavirus vaccine does its wonders, more people will come to the Southwest.

“On a like-for-like basis since the same period last year, we have increased the number of reservations on our site by 20%.

“In addition to the vaccine which gives people hope, the G7 has given us a boost. This is remarkable and fantastic news. It has strengthened our profile and made Cornwall stronger. “

The Carbis Bay Hotel, which hosts the world leaders at the summit in Cornwall, offers rooms for two adults from June 4-6 at £ 640. After the summit weekend of June 11-13, when full, the cheapest rooms are over £ 700.

Other hotels and inns in the Carbis Bay, St Ives and Hayle area see a similar increase in June.

According to information from bookings.com, as well as some hotels we have contacted directly, the G7 weekend prices are higher than at other times.

Some are already full for the weekends in June, with many not having room on the weekends when world leaders descend to the Southwest.
